Evidencias físicas de la estructura metapoblacional en el Flamenco Caribeño ( Phoenicopterus ruber ruber ) a partir de avistamientos de individuos anillados

Fisical evidences of the metapopulation structure in Caribbean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber ruber) from sighting of banded birds

 

RESUMEN

Se presentan 34 registros de Flamencos del Caribe (Phoenicopterus ruber) anillados entre 1999 y 2014 en Yucatán, que han sido avistados en Estados Unidos, Cuba e Islas Cayman y que se mantienen en la base de datos SIAM (Suivi Individuel d’Animaux Marqués) mantenida por Niños y Crías A.C en México. La mayor parte de los registros muestran un movimiento periódico entre Yucatán y Cuba. Estos registros aportan evidencias del comportamiento metapoblacional de la especie en el Caribe al mostrar que los individuos pueden regularmente moverse entre países de la región, hacia áreas en las cuales pueden mantenerse de manera estable, regresar al país de origen o reproducirse. Estos corroboran también la necesidad de un esfuerzo coordinado a nivel regional para conservar las poblaciones de esta carismática especie y fomentar la lectura de anillos en los diferentes países.

ABSTRACT

We present 34 records of Caribbean Flamingos (Phoenicopterus ruber) banded between 1999 and 2014 in Yucatan, that have been reported from United States, Cuba and Cayman Island. These records are included in a regional database named SIAM (Suivi Individuel d’Animaux Marqués) mantained by the Mexican organization Niños y Crías A.C. Most records are from Cuba showing a periodical birds movement between countries. This provide more evidences of a metapopulation structure for the species in the Caribbean by showing that birds can regularly fly between counties, into new areas where they can stay foraging, return or reproduce. The data also corroborate the need of a coordinated efforts at regional level to preserve this species and promote band reporting in different countries.
