Preparing for the adaptation to change

TThe project is being carried out in close collaboration with the current government of the municipality of Dzemul. Both the municipal president and the president of the DIF have been actively working on various government initiatives, which are among the municipality's objectives in relation to adaptation to change. The protected area will support the local government body in all those projects where we are required and also opening other opportunities to implement 8 training workshops scheduled over the next two years, aimed at community focus groups. All of them will be associated with the elaboration of inputs, furniture and other products, manufactured with environmentally friendly techniques and that can, besides being a contribution to their family economy, contribute to the balance of the natural environment that surrounds them.

The first training after the end of the "Stay at home" campaign due to COVID, was successfully completed. A shared effort between the Dzemul DIF, the management of DINOSUSA ABARROTES and the Private Natural Protected Area, has made it possible for the first theme selected for nature-friendly productive projects, called: "rescue and breeding of the sacred Mayan bee without affect the wild colonies” has fully met its objectives, by training a group of 6 women from the community who form a productive cooperative.

Sustainability in the exploitation and use of natural resources, the conservation of ecosystems and their biodiversity and the participation of the target population together with the strengthening of their capacities, are recognized criteria for selecting the most appropriate adaptation measures to change. This project aims to empower and link the identified target groups of the neighboring communities to the protected area in the municipality of Dzemul, in the conservation actions of its biological diversity, in order to seek a change of attitude in relation to the protected area. with the natural resources that surround them, by giving them various awareness workshops and training in different productive activities to improve the family economy.

  • Supplies needed for each workshop

  • The purchase of necessary equipment (glass cutters, carpentry tools, paints, fabrics, among others)

  • The different workshops for the target groups in the towns of the area of influence of the ANP such as Dzemul.
