Project conservation of mammals and bats included in the NOM

TECHNICAL REPORT WITH RESULTS DEC 2019-DEC 2021

The expansion and generation of new urban areas have modified and fragmented the natural landscapes (Noss 1994; Aguilar et al. 2000) and this problem causes local or regional extinction of species (Kirkpatrick and Jarne 2000) and in some cases, has forced animal populations to move and concentrate in the relicts of vegetation that remain intact (Laurance and Yensen 1991; Tilman et al. 1994), (Edwin Hernández-Pérez et al., 2015). In the case of this protected area, there were affectations associated with the henequen and cattle industry, although there are visible signs of recovery after more than 30 years under forest protection and hunting bans.
In the state, 51 species cataloged at risk by Mexican regulations are distributed, 38 included in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species and 15 threatened globally.

In its beginnings this project was supported by several research centers, mainly, the Autonomous University of Yucatan, under the coordination of Dr. Silvia Hernandez Betancourt Research Professor of the UADY and Dr. Jorge A. Vargas Contreras Professor of the Autonomous University of Campeche, who conducted the diversity study exercises called "Bioblitz" for the identification of rodents and bats respectively, in the Autonomous Area of Campeche. Vargas Contreras Professor of the Autonomous University of Campeche, who conducted the diversity study exercises called "Bioblitz" for the identification of rodents and bats respectively, in the Private Natural Protected Area, Komchén de los Pájaros, in March and December 2019, achieving with this exercise a preliminary list. However, it should be noted that the Tecnológico Nacional de México campus Chiná, Campeche (ITChiná) has been the one who, since its participation in the Bioblitz, has followed up on the inventory and continuity of several mastozoological investigations, grouped into several fundamental subprojects called...

A high proportion of Yucatan's mammals are legally protected. The 40% have a risk category, 13 mammals are in danger of extinction according to Nom-059-Semarnat-2010 and all of them are highly vulnerable. The inventory in this protected natural area consists of 23 land mammals and 4 species of bats to date. Of these 27 registered species, nine are considered in the Mexican Standard with some degree of risk (four are endangered and five are threatened). We are working to preserve them.
