The Bioblitz is a participatory citizen science event, where the objective is to record as many species as possible in a given place and time, through which participants, both experts and the general public, approach nature and its different ecosystems, learning about them and enjoying the process; finding species to which they had never paid attention before. These activities serve naturalists, researchers and amateurs to meet in a friendly outdoor environment, where learning is shared and useful data is generated for the study of biodiversity and scientific research.

This event was the second Bioblitz for Yucatan. The general objective of the event was to continue creating awareness in the community of the town of Dzemul about the biodiversity that surrounds them, promoting among the villagers the exploration of natural environments, as a first step for them to know, admire and respect their natural heritage and learn to use it in a friendly and sustainable way. But the fundamental objective was to achieve a wide participation of the peninsular research centers and universities, and we had the presence of a foreign university, in order to expand the lists of the different species that make up the biodiversity of the Private Protected Area, Komchén de los Pájaros.
