Programa integral de conservación del flamenco

RESUMEN

Como un esfuerzo para dar protección a la población del flamenco rosa del Caribe (Phoenicopterus ruber) en la Penín- sula de Yucatán, la Comisión Nacional de Áreas Naturales Protegidas y la Organización Niños y Crías A.C., desarrollan de forma conjunta un Programa Integral de Conservación, cuyos objetivos principales son: a) asegurar la disponibilidad de si- tios de anidación; b) reforzar las condiciones de protección de los sitios de alimentación; c) garantizar que ambos tipos de sitios estén provistos de fuentes de agua dulce proveniente de manantiales; d) conocer la demografía de la población del flamenco rosa en la Península de Yucatán; e) estudiar la supervivencia y movimientos migratorios del flamenco; y f) promover la importancia de proteger esta especie entre los pobladores de la costa de Yucatán.

ABSTRACT

As an effort to protect the population of the Caribbean pink flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) in the Yucatan Peninsula, the National Commission for Protected Natural Areas and the Niños y Crías AC Organization jointly develop a Comprehensive Conservation Program , whose main objectives are: a) to ensure the availability of nesting sites; b) reinforce the conditions of protection of feeding sites; c) ensure that both types of sites are provided with sources of fresh water from springs; d) know the demography of the pink flamingo population in the Yucatan Peninsula; e) study the survival and migratory movements of flamenco; and f) promote the importance of protecting this species among the inhabitants of the Yucatan coast.
